 BYC Membership Classifications

Active Class members have the privilege of applying for berth space and holding priority at both facilities of the Club, are entitled to vote at general meetings and can hold a position on the Board of Directors.

Retired Active Class members must be over the age of 65, actually retired from gainful employment and have been Active members in good standing for 15 years.  A member over the age of 55 who  is actually retired from gainful employment may apply his or her years of Active membership over 20 to reduce the age to earlier than 65. Disabled members over the age of 50 who are actually retired from gainful employment based on disability and who have been Active members in good standing for 10 years may also be eligible for Retired Active status.  Retired Active class members are entitled to all rights and privleges of Active class members.

Social Class members are non-voting, can not apply for berth space nor hold priority at the facilities of the Club.  Social members can not hold a position on the Board of Directors but are welcome to join committees.

Intermediate Class members must be between the ages of 24 and 39 years, inclusive.  Upon reaching age 40 they shall be transferred to another membership class depenidng on the qualifications and desires.  Intermediate members can not hold priority but are permitted to apply for berth space at either facility of the Club only if space is not required by Active, Retired Active, Life or Point Abino members.  Intermediate members are non-voting.

Crew Class members must be between the ages of 24 and 28 years inclusive.  Upon reaching their 29th birthday, Crew members will be transferred to another membership class depending on their qualificatons and desires.  Crew members are non-voting, can not apply nor hold priority for berth space at either facility of the Club.

Junior Class members shall be between the ages of 14 and 23 years inclusive.  Upon reaching their 24th birthday, Junior members will be transferred to another membership class based on their qualifications and desires.  Junior members can not hold priority but are permitted to apply for berth space at either facility of the Club only if space is not required by Active, Retired Active, Life or Point Abino members.  Junior members are non-voting.

Point Abino Class members must be Canadian citizens, who are also Canadian residents.  Point Abino members are permitted to have berth space only at our Canadian facility and permitted occasional use of the Buffalo Clubhouse.  Yearly fees are payable in Canadian funds and are inclusive of dues, assessments and slip fees.  Point Abino members are non-voting.

Armed Forces Class members must be active members of any branch of the Armed Services of the United States of America.  Armed Forces members may not reside or be stationed within seventy-five miles of the Buffalo Clubhouse.

Non-Resident Class members are limited to those who do not reside or have their principal place of business within a radius of seventy-five miles of the Buffalo Clubhouse.  A Non-Resident member who shall cease to comply with the distance requirements will be transferred to another membership class depending on their qualifications and desires.

Associate Class members shall consist of surviving spouses of members who make proper application to the Board of Directors.  Associate members are non-voting and can not apply nor hold priority for berth space at either facility of the Club.  Upon remarriage Associate members will be transferred to another membership class based on their qualifications and desires.
