Slip Assignment Procedure

Slip request forms shall be mailed to all Active and Retired Active members in December. One month will be allowed for response.
  1. Obtain all returned slip requests and arrange them in order of numerical priority – if requests are missing on the due date call and remind delinquent members to send them in. Set date for their response.

  2. Freeze the slip locations of members who want to retain their permanently assigned slips – mark these on the basin plan.

  3. Separate those forms requesting slip change and arrange them in order of priority.
  4. Starting with the requests for change:
      a) strike from the basin plan those refusing a slip -- this will identify slips available for reassignment.

  5. Assign the available slips based on priority and suitability trying to meet location and other requests made on the form as close as possible. Call each requestor and describe the options if not exactly as requested on the form.

  6. Continue with assignments until all requests are fulfilled or all slips are filled – inform those who did not get a permanent slip assignment so that they can make alternate arrangements for berthing.

  7. Update the Basin Plan (original), date & sign. This freezes the assignments for the coming season. After this date, changes are temporary and are valid no longer than one season.

  8. Make copies of the updated plan which should also show dry sailing and members who are paying for priority.

    Distribution –
      (2) copies to Fleet Captain
      (1) copy to BYC Files
      (1) copy to Basin Committee
      (2) copies to Point Abino

  9. Update the priority list for the coming year:
      a) delete members who resigned or changed classification to a non-active classification and those with a second refusal
      b) add new members to the bottom of the list ordered by the date they joined the club
      c) add those members who have taken a second refusal
      d) renumber the priority list to reflect the above changes

  10. Release a copy of the basin plan and updated priority list for posting and publication in the Binnacle.

  11. For those members who are qualified and want to build-up or retain priority without taking a slip when offered the following option exists for Point Abino only: Pay the fee for dry sailing (no security fee) every otheryear and take a first refusal in intermediate years.
